What does an Intimacy Coordinator do?
Advocate for actors, be a liaison between actors, producers, show-runners, and directors. Support wardrobe, hair/makeup, and fight-coordinators. Specialists in movement, body language, scenes involving intimate interactions, nudity, simulated sex, and intimacy involving minors. Intimacy coordinators offer consent-based approaches and tools that foster supportive environments for everyone involved.
How can our joint effort elevate your production?
My unique blend of production experience, acting background, and unwavering commitment fosters cohesive and respectful work environments. Increased room to play, choreograph, and be creative when scenes are handled with care, consent, and discretion, allowing directors to focus on their artistic vision and actors to focus on the work. I believe the framework for using professional intimacy coordinators throughout the production process adds much value, especially during prep. Protecting performers and facilitating open dialogue and collaboration while mitigating disruption to the production is vital for success. Because I am motivated by a deep interest in the psychology of life, human behavior, and the intricacies of power dynamics, I cultivate safe and respectful workspaces. These environments prioritize individual boundaries and consent while fostering productivity and positive energy.
What are some of the many values of an Intimacy Coordinator?
Boundaries: Facilitate open communication among the actors to build a foundation of mutual respect and trust. Monitor and protect actors’ boundaries during rehearsals and/or filming, and adapt in real-time to changes for a seamless experience and timely production.
Choreography: When requested, assist director or actors with the simulated sex scenes using deloaded and desexualized language. Foster rehearsal processes that respect the actor's agency and ensure their mental and physical safety while effectively bringing the script's intimate scenes to life.
Clear Communication: Foster transparent discussions between all parties to ensure comprehension and agreement on executing the creative vision safely and respectfully. Efforts to create a space where actors understand the requirements of hyper-exposed scenes and give their informed and ongoing consent.
Consulting: SAG-AFTRA guidelines, casting notices, scenes involving minors. Serves as an on-set ally for LGBTQIA+ cast and crew.
Emotional Support: Help actors prepare for intense scenes, provide derolling/exit techniques, provide information and resources to licensed mental health professionals.
Nudity Riders: Prepare nudity and intimacy consent riders—secure transmission of riders to production.
Production Support & Practical Logistics: Ensure the safety of all personnel involved in hyper-exposed scenes, streamline communication between production departments to realize the director's vision, mitigate financial, insurance, and reputational risks while minimizing potential production delays, and collaborate with departments such as costumes, props, and locations to handle the technical aspects of intimate scenes smoothly.
Privacy: Uphold professional standards of confidentiality regarding the actors and the project. Maintain strict non-disclosure in accordance with the NDA. Initiate closed-set protocols, and SAG-AFTRA guidelines are being followed.
Minors' Safety: Act as a protective presence and ensure minors' safety and well-being in scenes depicting emotional and/or physical family connectedness and hyper-exposed work (bathing).
The result?
A production that prioritizes both artistic integrity and the well-being of its cast and crew. Scenes that feel authentic and powerful without crossing boundaries or causing harm.
A secure, rewarding, and fulfilling experience for all involved.
Please note: I adhere to SAG-AFTRA
industry standards, protocols, & best practices.
Support with Heart
My approach is simple: actively cultivate and consistently foster a collaborative and creative environment anchored in consent and well-being. As a discreet, nurturing advocate, I weave compassion into the fabric of our work together, encouraging a shared space where creative storytelling thrives.
I cultivate an inclusive and harmonious setting that amplifies every voice in our shared narrative.
As an Intimacy Coordinator (IC) with over 25 years of award-winning production experience (in front of and behind the camera), I collaborate with you to create a world where intimate scenes feel as natural and comfortable as a casual conversation—a world where the director's vision shines, production is happy and every actor feels empowered to perform at their best without compromising their safety or comfort.
